2 charged after child drowns in Clayton County

Two people have been charged after a 4-year-old boy drowned by falling into a pool on Wednesday.

JONESBORO, Ga. -- Two people have been charged after a 4-year-old boy drowned by falling into a pool on Wednesday, the Clayton County Police Department said.

Authorities responded to the call of the boy falling into the pool on Winding Way Lane in Jonesboro at around 5:35 p.m.

After officers removed the child, Donovan Daniels, from the pool, resuscitation efforts began. Daniels was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Thursday morning, police said two people face marijuana-related charges in this case. Harold Carter, 59, and Robert Carter, 64, admitted they were under the influence of marijuana when Daniels drowned.

Police say that the boy and his family were from out of state and visiting the location when the tragedy happened.
