Six people have qualified for the Fulton County commission seat formerly held by the late Joan Garner, including a communications executive for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Reese McCranie qualified for the race on Friday, the final day in which candidates could register for the race.

The special election is being held in Fulton commission district 4.

The other candidates who have qualified are community organizer Eddie Lee Brewster; Kathryn Flowers Glasco, a Realtor; Natalie Hall, who lists her profession as a chief of staff; Steven D. Lee, an unidentified executive director; and healthcare sales executive Joshua McNair.

McCranie is making his first run for public office after serving in Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed’s administration as deputy director of communications. He was later promoted to director of policy and communications at Hartsfield-Jackson.

The special election will be held Nov. 7, 2017, the same day as all of metro Atlanta’s contested municipal elections this year, including the city’s mayor’s race to succeed Reed.

Garner died this past April, having been elected as vice chair of the commission in 2011. Former chairman John Eaves resigned earlier this week to run for Atlanta mayor.
