Bears' Moore: Nobody Wanted Justin Fields Trade; Talks Keenan Allen, Caleb Williams | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
While DJ Moore is excited about whoever the future quarterback of the Chicago Bears is going to be, it's a bittersweet moment for the wide receiver knowing Justin Fields is no longer with the club.
Appearing on 670 The Score's Mully and Haugh show (starts at 1:30 mark), the 26-year-old said "nobody wanted" the signal-caller to leave.
Although the Bears traded away Fields, they acquired Keenan Allen in a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers. He had 108 receptions and 1,243 yards last season.
Moore also addressed his arrival and the impact he could have on his own stats:
"It doesn't really matter to me," he said, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "I know we've both talked about how we're going to complement each other. So I'm just looking forward to that. It might be a race to 1,000 (yards), but that's just a friendly competition. At the end of the day, if we're winning, whoever is catching the ball, I don't really care."
Moore did note he hasn't been following the pre-draft workouts for the top quarterbacks, but he talked about his expectations for Caleb Williams if he ends up being Chicago's pick.
"I hope he just comes in and gets ready to work," he said (starts at 6:15 mark). "You can't worry about the legacy of Justin Fields. You got to go out there and worry (about your own thing)."
When the Bears clinched the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, it seemed to signal the end of Fields' tenure in Chicago. It became a reality on March 16 when the 25-year-old was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick.
Fields made improvements every year he was in Chicago. He threw for a career-high 2,562 yards and 16 touchdowns in 13 starts last season. His 1,143 rushing yards in 2021 were the second-most in a single season by a quarterback in NFL history, trailing only Lamar Jackson's first MVP season in 2019 (1,206).
Williams is the overwhelming favorite to be the top choice in this year's draft. The 2022 Heisman winner threw for 8,170 yards and 72 touchdowns in 26 games over the past two seasons at USC.
If the USC product ends up in Chicago, he will be walking into a great situation. The offensive line ranked in the top five in pass-block and run-block win rates last season, per ESPN.com.
Moore has cracked the 1,000-yard mark four times in the past five years, including a career-best 1,364 yards in 2023.
