The Philadelphia Eagles have restructured the contract of defensive end Josh Sweat, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

He's agreed to terms on a restructured contract, despite interest elsewhere for what likely would have been a pay increase. Philly keeps a good one home. <a href="">
Sweat's restructured deal includes $10 million guaranteed and can reach a maximum of $13 million with incentives (per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler). He reportedly had no prior guarantees on the remainder of the three-year, $40 million extension that he signed with the team in 2021.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic previously revealed that the Eagles were "shopping" Sweat for weeks, although the restructure will allow the 26-year-old to remain in Philadelphia next season.
Some of the questions surrounding Sweat's murky future with the organization were also due to his production dropping in 2023. After totaling 6.5 sacks in Philadelphia's first nine games of the year, he failed to bring down an opposing quarterback for the remainder of the regular season.
While it's worth noting that he only played 12 defensive snaps in the Eagles' Week 18 matchup with the New York Giants, it's still surprising that he went eight straight games without recording a sack (per Pro Football Reference). Sweat was a crucial part of Philadelphia's imposing front seven during the team's 2022 NFC Championship-winning season, accounting for 11 of the unit's league-leading 70 sacks.
The Eagles have made a clear attempt to bolster their defensive line in the offseason, re-signing veteran Brandon Graham on March 9. General manager Howie Roseman followed it up by adding former New York Jets defensive end Bryce Huff on a massive three-year deal worth $51.1 million, with the 25-year-old coming off a season where he recorded 10 sacks and 21 quarterback hits.
With Sweat agreeing to a restructured deal, he'll attempt a bounce-back campaign in 2024. Although he went eight consecutive games without taking down an opposing quarterback, he did record a sack during the Eagles' wild card matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
