Being a role model to his daughter was clearly important to Christian, and it’s clear that his influence was a significant factor in Elizabeth’s decision to take her own path.
Christian’s career path has taken him through a variety of industries, including the energy sector. He worked as a vice president at both Tenneco and Enron, but unfortunately, his time at the latter will always be marred by the scandal that rocked the company.
But Christian didn’t let this setback derail his future. He turned to his connections for help, and fortunately, he found support in Fuisz, who allowed him to live rent-free in their Virginia home.
Eventually, Christian returned to public service, honing his skills as a global water coordinator at the EPA, USTDA, and USAID. Today, he’s a senior advisor with The Boston Consulting Group, putting his expertise to good use in yet another field.
The rise of Theranos was nothing short of meteoric – from an idea in Elizabeth Holmes’ head to a company valued at billions of dollars in just a few years.

How did Elizabeth’s mother, Noel Anne Daoust shape Elizabeth Holmes’ story?
Noel Anne Daoust, Elizabeth Holmes’ mother, has lived a less public life than her husband, Christian Holmes. However, like him, she has worked in government, serving as a foreign policy aide to Rep. Charlie Wilson.
After the birth of Elizabeth and her brother Christian, Noel chose to quit her job to stay at home and care for her children. Noel spoke about her daughter’s determination in 2014 when Theranos was still flourishing.
She remembered a time when Elizabeth decided to write a patent application for the first time while still living at home. Noel witnessed her daughter’s dedication, as she barely left the computer for five to six days, with just a few hours of sleep each night.
Later, when Elizabeth chose to quit school and launch her own startup, Noel was supportive and encouraged her daughter to follow her dreams of changing the world.
According to Richard Fuisz, Noel played an aggressive role in her daughter’s development, programming Elizabeth to be an inventor and language learner, just like Fuisz himself.
Tyler Shultz, one of the first whistleblowers at Theranos, however, has a different memory of Elizabeth’s relationship with her parents.
In his memoir, Shultz described arranging Elizabeth’s 30th birthday party, during which her parents were unaware that she was having a celebration. This suggests that Elizabeth may not have been very close to her parents.
