Emerald Villas & Suites Hotel Review, Zakynthos, Greece

Villas (confusingly called suites) come in seven categories. Those at the top of the complex have the best views, but they’re a long walk (and a steep climb back) from the nearest restaurants and beaches. Individual tunnel-like entrances and fortress-like solid wooden doors lend a sense of privacy to the very spacious villas.

Inside, décor is cool and uncluttered – think beige and pale-mint walls, grey parquet wood floors and vast well-upholstered sofas (with enough cushions to fill a large bathtub). There are nest-egg tables, king-sized beds, walk-in double rain showers, fully equipped kitchens with a washing machine and dishwasher, family-sized kitchen tables and breakfast bars.

Terrace areas (surrounded by high stone walls which give near-total privacy), are as big as villas, with chunky sunbeds and large jetted infinity pools. Emerald Honeymoon suites and Emerald Honeymoon Cave suites for two are cosy and private, with pretty infinity pools and working fireplaces. Smaller families will have plenty of room in Classic and Superior villas built on two levels, but there’s also the – very roomy – Emerald Deluxe four-bed villa with pool, if you need more space.
