Ruby Bridges parents Abon Bridges and Lucille Bridges got married in 1953. The couple raised five kids together but they detached in the late 1960s.

Lucille Bridges and her husband, Abon Bridges, enrolled their daughter, Ruby Bridges, in William Frantz Elementary School, which was an all-white school at the time.

Mother Lucille Bridges

Lucille Bridges was an American civil rights activist who was born on 12 August 1934, in Tylertown, Mississippi. Lucille died on 10 November 2020 at the age of 86 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She is best known for helping to integrate schools in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the 1960s.

Lucille Bridges continued to be an advocate for education and civil rights throughout her life.

Father Abon Bridges

Abon Bridges was a truck driver and a World War II veteran. Along with his wife, Abon Bridges played a significant role in the desegregation of schools in New Orleans.

Bridges was born on 23 August 1933, in Tylertown, Mississippi. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1978 at the age of 44.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. Abon and his wife Lucille were sharecroppers when they were living in Mississippi and later he worked as a gas station attendant and a custodian when the family moved to New Orleans from Mississippi in 1956. Abon Bridges was a mechanic as well.
