James Latshaw's Baseball Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

Cal Ripken, Jr. said, “The best thing you can do in the whole world is to play baseball.” For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for the game. From the time I was two years old, I would wake up in the morning and put on a full Dodgers uniform, from head to toe, and pretend I was Clayton Kershaw or Andre Ethier. I’d ask my parents to drive me to ballparks just so I could swing the bat and run the bases. When I was seven, my dad made me a baseball field on our ranch, and my mom and dad would spend hours playing catch or coaching my Little League teams.

All I’ve ever wanted to do is play baseball at the highest level, and my dream would be to pitch or play center field for an elite college program and someday play in the MLB. As a sophomore, I worked my way up to a starting position, and as a junior this season, I plan on leading the team to the League and Division Championships. I chose to go to a high school with a strong reputation for academic excellence, athletic distinction, while instilling Christian values and a heart for service. My coaches are as passionate about the game as I am, committed to shaping us not only into great baseball players but also into great citizens and community leaders. I believe my passion and work ethic are what set me apart from others. I train every day and thrive on constant improvement. Ultimately, I would love to give back to my hometown of Fillmore and provide every kid the opportunity to fuel their own passions and reach their dreams in the game of baseball.
