Luke Shaw returns to Manchester United training after injury absence

Luke Shaw has returned to training with Manchester United after a three-month absence.

The England international defender has been sidelined since August after sustaining a muscle injury in the early weeks of the season.

He has gone on to miss United last’s 16 matches in all competitions as well as six with the national team.

The club have confirmed Shaw was back training with team-mates at Carrington on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Everton.

It was initially hoped the 28-year-old would only miss weeks but the severity of the issue eventually saw the club move for Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the summer window.

Reguilon, Diogo Dalot and Sofyan Amrabat have all featured on the left side of defence in Shaw’s absence with fellow full-back Tyrell Malacia also missing.

Shaw played a key role as United qualified for the Champions League and won the League Cup last season, operating at both left-back and centre-back, before starting his side’s opening two matches of the 2023-24 campaign.

United — sixth in the Premier League table — return to action at Goodison Park on Sunday before travelling to Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday.
