Molly Smith - Variety500 - Top 500 Entertainment Business Leaders
Smith co-founded Black Label Media with twin partners Trent and Thad Luckinbill in 2013 to focus on adult, mid-level-budget fare. Though BLM’s first dramas fared poorly, the drug-war thriller “Sicario” scored $84 million and three Academy Awards noms, and its “La La Land” became 2016’s Oscar darling. Despite her pedigree, the daughter of FedEx founder Fred Smith paid her dues and learned her craft as a P.A. on films produced by her father’s Alcon Entertainment, with her first producing credit landing on 2007’s “P.S. I Love You.” After starting 2S Films with “P.S.” star Hilary Swank in 2008 and Belle Pictures in 2012, she jumped to BLM with the Luckinbills for greater flexibility and autonomy. The Memphis-born Smith is a graduate of New York University.
