Narleen Campton Murder: Is Jeremy Bryant Still In Prison?
Narleen Campton murder investigation is ongoing, and her children are desperate for answers. The murder happened in Northport, Washington, in November 2011.
‘Blood Relations: Desperate For Answers’ on investigation discovery aims to investigate the puzzling riddle behind the November 2011 murder of 62-year-old Narleen Compton in Northport, Washington.
While detectives have apprehended a suspect, many connected to the investigation think some unanswered issues remain.
Narleen B. Dorn Campton was born in Los Angeles County, California, on May 3, 1949. She was born into a middle-class Jewish family. She had music and ballet lessons, college, and tours to Disneyland growing up.
Sabrina Tipich, her daughter, said, “My mother got caught up in the 70s Hippie Movement in her teens. She wanted to live the polar opposite life she was raised in and try the whole back to the land experience.”
Narleen has four children, one daughter, Sabrina Tipich, and three sons, Azariah Hulsey, Tro Anderson, and Nathan Campton, and all had different dads.
As per Sabrina, all four siblings and their mother were “a close family unit.” Narleen shifted to the small village of Northport in Stevens County, Washington, in the early 1980s.
With a population of fewer than 600 people, the village provided the secure, peaceful, and pleasant life she desired. Her children recalled how everyone in the small neighborhood cherished her and called her “MOM.”
She was a calm woman who kept to herself and did everything she could to aid others. It came as a shock when her friend Dianne Fitzgerald, found her dead on November 26, 2011, after going to check on Narleen at her son’s request.
Dianne arrived at Narleen’s house, an L-shaped rancher located southeast of Northport, at approximately 2:40 PM and discovered her dead body in the laundry room.
She informed the authorities, and officers found no evidence of the forced entry inside Narleen’s residence.
The autopsy report of Narleen announced the cause of death was blunt force trauma caused by her head being bashed against the bathtub continuously.
She had suffered many cuts on her body, including her breasts and cheek, and a stun gun or a taser might have caused burnt scars all over her skin.
As per the investigator, the 62-year-old victim was likely tortured and was possibly breathing at that time.
A receipt with a bloody fingerprint on it and a smartphone was discovered behind a couch cushion by the police officers.
Detectives from the Steven County Sheriff’s Department opted to reconstruct a timeline, tracing up to a 62-year-old woman’s death. According to the investigation, she was last seen on November 23.
On that day, Narleen, with her neighbor Bo Wiley, had gone on a routine shopping trip to Colville. He drove her to Walmart for groceries and to pick up her monthly medicines of 300 painkillers.
Bo Wiley told the officers that he had dropped Narleen at her home in the evening with her groceries.
Following three days, she was contacted by her three children, wishing her Thanksgiving and sharing concerns about her not returning their calls.
Her son, Nathan, asked Dianne on November 26 to check up on his mother, who later found his mother’s dead body in the house. The blood was all over the place, indicating her corpse had been dragged around and drawers had been pulled out.
Police said half of her hydrocodone medication was missing, along with a safe.
While interrogating, police reached Narleen’s youngest child, Azariah Hulsey, who lived with his mother and was also a meth addict. His sister, Sabrina, informed the police that he had stolen his mother’s identity card and credit cards and emptied her bank account many times.
According to neighbors, on November 21, Narleen eventually lost her patience when Azariah stole her car, and she instructed him to leave her house.
The police thought he had a strong motive but found that on Narleen Campton murder day, he was in the Stevens County Jail. Police approached his wife after they found that Azariah’s wife, Heather Dahlke, had a brief history of connections with drug dealers.
While investigating Heather, police found that she had a boyfriend, Robert, the phone owner, that was found at the crime scene. Robert explained that he had left his phone during an overnight visit around Halloween to Narleen’s house, which his son later denied returning to Stevens County on October 2011.
Who is Jeremy Bryant?
The officers were led to another suspect, Jeremy Bryant, who denied being involved in the murder. He claimed that he was in Colville, but his phone records portrayed that he was in Northport the night when someone brutally murdered Narleen.
The most clinching piece of evidence was when the forensic team matched his DNA to the bloody receipt recovered from Narleen’s handbag.
His trial was set for December 2013 after he was arrested. Despite the solid and clear evidence against him, Jeremy never went to trial as he cut a plea deal with the prosecution lawyer and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
He was sentenced to 234 months in prison. According to the report, Narleen’s children were not satisfied with the sentencing as they desperately sought answers from Jeremy.
According to the official court records, Jeremy W Bryant, 42, is serving his punishment at the Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Aberdeen, Washington.
