NFL Roster Cuts Tracker: Updates on Player Releases Before Deadline for 2023 Season | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

Winning a Super Bowl is a lengthy, step-by-step process, and one of the most important steps of that process is setting the active roster ahead of the new season.

This year, NFL teams have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET to cut their active rosters down to 53 players.

Of note, Dennis Waszak Jr. of NBC Chicago explained some of the differences in terminology. If a player with less than four accrued seasons in the NFL is waived, he can be claimed by other teams on waivers. He then becomes a free agent if he is unclaimed after 24 hours.

By comparison, players with four or more accrued seasons are immediately free agents when they are released and are not placed on waivers.

What's more, Waszak wrote: "Players can also be waived/injured, which means the player can be claimed by another team or revert to his original team's IR list after the claiming period. The team can then decide whether it wants to move forward with the player or release him with an injury settlement."
