TMZ: Patrick Mahomes' Dad Allowed to Travel to NFL Super Bowl 58 After DWI Arrest | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Saturday, but that won't stop him from watching his son play in Super Bowl LVIII.
Per TMZ, Judge James Meredith of Smith County, Texas, didn't impose a travel ban on the elder Mahomes as part of his bond conditions, which allows him to go to Las Vegas for Sunday's Super Bowl matchup between the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.
TMZ added that under Mahomes Sr.'s bond conditions, law enforcement officials said he is barred from consuming or possessing alcohol and/or illegal drugs. He's now required to have an interlock device on his vehicle and submit to random testing.
Mahomes Sr. was initially pulled over for a routine traffic stop on Saturday night, but a spokesperson for the Tyler Police Department told TMZ that "evidence obtained during the stop led to the arrest."
The 53-year-old had been arrested for DWI twice before, serving 40 days in a county jail in 2018 after pleading guilty and facing charges in 1994 after getting into a one-car accident. He also was charged with public intoxication during a 2016 game between TCU and Texas Tech, his son's alma mater.
After Mahomes led Kansas City to a second straight Super Bowl appearance, Mahomes Sr. told CNN's Ben Morse on Thursday that he was planning to be in attendance at Sunday's Big Game.
The Chiefs star signal-caller has yet to comment on his father's legal matters. He is scheduled to speak to the media on Monday at Allegiant Stadium as part of Super Bowl Opening Night.
