Watford reject late bid from Everton for Ismaila Sarr

Watford have rejected a late bid from Everton to sign Ismaila Sarr ahead of Tuesday’s January transfer deadline.

Everton, who sit 19th in the Premier League, wanted to pay £2million to sign Sarr on loan for the rest of the season.

The deal would have included an obligation to purchase Sarr for £30m in the event of Everton avoiding the drop, as well as a £4m appearance bonus.

But Watford, who have remained adamant Sarr would not leave the club this January, rejected the late offer.

Sarr, 24, is one of Watford’s most important players. He has scored six goals in 24 Championship appearances for the club, who are fourth in the table.

Everton, who this week appointed the former Burnley manager Sean Dyche to replace Frank Lampard, are seeking for attacking reinforcements after they sold Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United in a £45m deal.

They also missed out on the opportunity to sign Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal after he instead decided to move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton are yet to make a signing in the January transfer window. They did, however, recall the 22-year-old striker Ellis Simms from Sunderland.

Simms scored seven goals in 17 league games for the Championship club.
