Will Allen's Baseball Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

My name is Will Allen and I am a student at Maranatha High School in Pasadena, CA.  My goal is to earn my degree in business or education and play baseball at the collegiate level.

I am a huge fan of  Chase Utley, Bryce Harper and Mike Trout.  I try to model my game after those players -- gritty, smart, max effort and team guys.  I love being recognized for my hustle and work ethic.  I play every position on the diamond (except catcher) -- although I tend to spend most of my time at 1B, 3B, OF and Pitcher.   I really like to hit.  I have always had pretty good power and make good contact.

My grades are important to me -- I am not the best student and I have to work harder than most to get the grades that I have.   I found out that I had an auditory processing disorder half way through my 8th grade year, and I am working to overcome this challenge in the classroom.  I am definitely a visual learner, but I have strategies in place to help me deal with my learning differences.  I take pride in those good  grades I have had to really work for.   I am not sure what I want to study in college, I like the idea of becoming a teacher, but I also have really enjoyed my business and graphic design courses in high school.

While I have started to specialize in baseball — and it is my favorite by far — I like to play all sports.  In grade school, I played soccer, basketball, football and ran track.  I played football (tight end and defensive end) as a freshman and caught 5 touchdowns and several 2-point conversions.  I swim competitively with my club team and even hold a couple of club records.  In my free time I like to ski, body surf, golf, catch a movie with friends and be with my family.

I really want to go to a school with strong traditions, a good academic reputation, an active, supportive alumni base, an engaged student body, and,  of course, a committed baseball program who can help develop me into the best baseball player I can be.
