New York Yankees outfielder Oscar Gonzalez suffered an unfortunate injury in Monday night's exhibition game in Mexico City.

During the second inning, Gonzalez hit a foul ball that wound up striking him in the face and causing a right orbital fracture, per Katherine Itoh of NBC Sports.

Gonzalez laid on the ground for several moments while being tended to before standing up under his own power and being carted off the field. He gave a thumbs-up to the crowd as he was taken back to the dugout.

Gonzalez was treated at the stadium for a right eye contusion before being transported to a local medical center. The Yankees said he remained at the hospital overnight for observation and rest, and a Double-A trainer would stay behind with him in Mexico City while the rest of the team leaves for Houston.

Gonzalez was reassigned to minor league camp before Monday's game, so he's not a candidate to make the Yankees' Opening Day roster. It's not yet clear how much time he will miss.
