Yvonne Michelle Simmons, Hall of Fame Carver High School Basketball Coach, Passes Away at 70

The sports community is in mourning following the passing of Hall of Fame basketball coach, Yvonne Michelle Simmons. The former Carver High School girls’ basketball coach died on Thursday after a prolonged illness. She was 70 years old.

Simmons’ death was confirmed by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Thursday afternoon. “We are deeply saddened by the death of Coach Simmons,” said AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs. “She was always a positive influence on her students and athletes.”

Simmons, who led the Wolverines for 29 years, had a significant impact on the school’s sports program and was an inspiration to many aspiring athletes. Her dedication to the game, coupled with her unwavering commitment to her students, made her a beloved figure within the community and beyond.

Throughout her illustrious career, Simmons made invaluable contributions to high school sports, both on and off the court. Her leadership, passion, and commitment to her team will forever be remembered.
