Anthony White Obituary, Santa Ana College Football Coach Has Passed Away

Anthony White Obituary, Death – Santa Ana College’s football team shared the news on Friday that Anthony White, a cancer survivor who championed diversity among Orange County’s coaching staff and resurrected the program at Buena Park High, had died. “Head Football Coach Anthony White passed away after a valiant battle with cancer,” the school said in a social media post. “The influence of Anthony on SAC Athletics and everyone he came in contact with was immense.”

We regret to inform you of the demise of Head Football Coach Anthony White following his courageous battle with cancer. Anthony will be remembered fondly by SAC Athletics and all those fortunate enough to have known him. Santa Ana College’s sports director Mary Hegarty said that 42-year-old White, who is in his third year as a coach at the university, coached virtually throughout the campaign and made it to one game this fall. On November 19, the Dons defeated Desert 56-48 in the Southern California Bowl to end their season. White was chosen MVP of the team.

Although White was a great coach, Hegarty said that White was “an even better man.” White made history in Orange County community college football when he was hired as head coach at Santa Ana in May 2021, becoming one of the first Black coaches in the county. White, who possessed half-Hispanic heritage, informed The Register, “I consider myself the first one,” during that period. “Let me assure you, I am fully aware of the gravity of this enormous responsibility.”

Several Santa Ana College players and coaches visited White at the hospital recently, according to Santa Ana College offensive coordinator Geoff Jones. White is a married father of two small children, and Jones, who was distressed, said of him, “He wanted his son to be proud of him.” Every one of us holds him in high esteem. Throughout his seven years as a coach at Buena Park, which concluded following the 2016 season, White reliably transformed the struggling Coyotes football team into a champion. With White at the helm, the 10-2 Coyotes won the Freeway League title in his last season as a head coach, the team’s first since 1991. While coaching at Buena Park, he went 59-22 and had a hand in the careers of several players who went on to play in the NFL, including as Nik Needham, Josh Tupou, and Jaylinn Hawkins.
