Barbara Anne Harris – Metropolitan Funeral

Barbara Anne Harris entered her eternal home on Sunday, October 29, 2023.  She was born on April 22, 1939, in Norfolk, Virginia to Clarence and Mary Anne Hardy. Barbara was a vibrant, fun-loving, God-fearing woman who could brighten any room with her presence.

Since childhood, Barbara aspired to become a healthcare provider. Her desire to care for others was attained through years of service in the healthcare industry. Barbara attended and completed nursing school and was a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her knowledge and proficiency in the field propelled her through the healthcare system, reaching levels of upper management. Barbara served as the Director of Nursing for Ghent Arms Healthcare Facility and Assistant Director of Nursing for Shepherds Village both located in Norfolk, Virginia.

Barbara was the proud mother of four children and one grandson, who affectionately called her “Meme”. She desired and strived to live a Christian lifestyle before them and wanted them to grow in the fear and admonition of the Lord. During her quest to find a church, Barbara encountered a woman by the name of Sister Gayle Hayes who invited her to a Tuesday Night Bible Study at Faith Deliverance Christian Center. At that time, the church services were being held at the Y.M.C.A (Young Men’s Christian Association). After her first visit, Barbara solidified her membership and for over 30 years was an active member of this congregation under the leadership of Dr. Sharon S. Riley and Dr. Barbara M. Amos. Barbara took an active role in the life of the church, faithfully participating in various ministries including, but not limited to, the Cleaning Ministry, Youth, Teen, and Adult Usher Ministry, Armor Bearers Ministry and the Healthcare Ministry.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary Anne Hardy and daughters, Joy L. Harris and Adrienne L. Harris.

She is survived by two sons, Ralph W. Harris and Sherman (Jeanette) Harris; grandson, Timothy Harris-Pouncy; five nieces, Deborah (Micheal) Dobbins, Sheba Edwards, Therarana Selby, Niji Henderson, and Remadana Furtel, and a host of relatives and friends.
