Beverly R. Brooks-Sykes – Metropolitan Funeral
On Friday, October 22, 2022, the Lord dispatched Heavenly angels to South Carolina to guide Beverly Brooks, 60, back home to reside with Him forever. It was that day, when her spiritual being, her soul and spirit, left her body and went into the spiritual Kingdom of our Heavenly Father. With Him, she will never experience sorrow, loneliness, pain or grief, but only joy and peace.
Beverly was born in Norfolk, VA to Alton and Beulah Brooks. She was the third, of five children. She graduated at the top of her class from Maury High School, Old Dominion University, and George Mason School of Law. Her final professional assignment began in 2013 with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services where she was committed to treating all those she served with fairness, integrity, and respect.
Beverly gave her life to Christ at an early age and made it her mission to serve the Lord in all she did. In her professional life, friendships, and with her family, she consistently showed and modeled her Christian walk as she served, supported, and loved others.
She leaves a multitude of family and friends to treasure her bright spirit and loving memories to include brothers, Alphonso Brooks (Adrian) of Norfolk, VA and Jerome Brooks (Letha) of Hampton, VA; nieces, Stacy Wilson, Alecia Ore, Princess King and Lisette King; great nieces, Jazmine Wilson and Kirsten King; nephews, Alphonso Brooks, Jr., and Peyton Brooks; great nephews, Sincere Brooks, Noah Patrice, and Akai Brooks; aunts, Lillian Fletcher, Josephine Elazier, Claudette Washington, and Dorothy Odom; and uncles, Willie Washington, and Nathaniel Brooks;
Beverly also leaves to treasure her memory a special and caring friend, Elizabeth Weast of South Carolina as well as her NHCM church family, friends, and co-workers who added to her life and she theirs.
She was predeceased by her husband, Percell Sykes, sister, Vanessa Brooks, and brother, Roland Brooks.
Before settling in South Carolina, Beverly resided in various cities with her husband but always remained determine to be grounded in a church family where she could express her love and faith in the Lord. While still in South Carolina, with plans to eventually move back to Virginia, Beverly virtually joined New Harvest Christian Ministries in Hampton, VA, under the leadership of Pastor Gregory Heyward. Every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, as well as during her new disciple classes on designated Saturday mornings, she was almost always the first one to sign on, even before many arrived to the church in person.
Though the pain of missing those who Jesus has called home might seem unbearable at times, we ultimately want what is best for our loved ones. The greatest place for anyone to be, regardless of their age, stage, or status in life, is in Heaven with our Lord. Our Creator loves us, knows that plan he has for us, and knows the proper time to call us home. We must trust Him in all things, including the time each of us is given here on earth.
So, if you visit Beverly’s final resting place, do not look down at where she is physically, but, look up to Heaven because that is where her new residence is. She has not left us behind but will be patiently waiting to rejoice with us when Jesus calls us home to be with her in Heaven.
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~Romans 8:38-39
