Burger King Mascot in Mayweather's Entourage Reportedly Cost Company $1 Million | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Although most of the reaction from Saturday night's "Fight of the Century" between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao has centered on the actual boxing, something happened before the fight that had people talking.
Everyone knew Justin Bieber was going to be at the fight to support his buddy Mayweather. It was an interesting surprise to see talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel walking out with Pacquiao. However, there was one surprise nobody could have ever seen coming.
The Burger King mascot was part of Mayweather's entourage. That's not random or anything.
It was so bizarre and unexpected that people immediately wanted to know why the mascot was there. Obviously, it was just a way to get folks talking about Burger King on one of sports' biggest stages of the year.
However, a move like that was pricey. ESPN's Darren Rovell tweeted that it likely cost Burger King around $1 million to get its mascot into Mayweather's entourage:
Darren Rovell @darrenrovellICYMI: Burger King paid for king to walk in with Floyd Mayweather. Estimated to cost $1M+
Rovell also put things in perspective:
Darren Rovell @darrenrovellBurger King got a week's full of publicity by having the king in Mayweather's pre-fight entourage, says @amobee
Was this stunt worth the money? Considering it had Twitter buzzing, Burger King has to feel pretty good.
🍃 @ashlaaay_My only question about the #MayPac fight is, why was Burger King walking into the ring with Mayweather?!
Danny DiNero @MrDannyDiNeroYa'll busy talking about what happened in the ring. I'm still in disbelief about Mayweather walking to the ring with Burger King. 😂
The Anthony Wherley @TheMrTDub32And...honestly, when we saw the Burger King guy standing behind Mayweather 😂#WhatWasThatAllAbout?
Earl Skakel @EarlSkakelI think #Mayweather's walkout was actually better than the actual fight. #burgerking #JustinBieber #jimmykimmel
Mayweather may have won the fight, but one could argue Burger King was the biggest winner of the night.
