Connor Gioffreda's Men's Swimming Recruiting Profile
Personal Statement
My name is Connor Gioffreda, and I have been swimming for a team for a little over 2 years. I am a little more unique than the average high school student conducting their college search. I have a condition called achondroplasia, which is the most common form of dwarfism. I have been swimming in Paralympic swimming events for the past two years, and currently I am training for the Paralympic trials, which will be held at the end of June in Charlotte, NC. As you may already know, Paralympic swimming is divided into 14 classifications, from S1 to S14. My classification is S6, which consists of swimmers with short stature, or swimmers with amputations of both arms or moderate coordination issues with one side of their body.
I hold American records in the S6 category for long course in the 200M Butterfly, 800M Freestyle, 1500M Freestyle, and the 400M IM. In the 2015 rankings, I ranked #1 in the USA for all of the following events, and in the world, I rank 2nd for the 1500M Freestyle, 3rd for the 800M Freestyle, 5th in the 200M Freestyle, and 7th in the 100M Butterfly.
If you’d like to see some websites about the Paralympic records and rankings, I’ve included them here, as well as a link to a story that the local paper did on me last summer. I am excited about adding diversity to my future college swim team, and hope that you will consider me as a candidate for your team.
