Gavin Miriello's Men's Soccer Recruiting Profile
Personal Statement
As a child of a father who played in college himself I have always looked up to him in order to obtain his standards of play. I can never remember a time when I have not wanted to play soccer throughout my whole life. It has always been my dream to be able to play soccer at the elite level and I feel as though a collegiate soccer career is a great way of reaching for that dream. When I was four years old I imagined that I would play professional soccer when I was older, but as I have aged I have realized how valuable a college degree really is.
I have been playing soccer since I was around four years old. First, I started how most kids my age would have playing recreational soccer, but now I have matured into a well experienced soccer athlete. Throughout my career as a young athlete I have been given the ability to play many positions making myself more versatile as a player. For most of my soccer life I had been playing center-back, whether that be with four or three in the back. My continued development growth has me farther (and in some cases wider) up the pitch. As of today I play the #8 position in our clubs 4-4-2 (Diamond) formation, making me the widest player to the left. This has also been a gift to me in that it has given me the ability to develop both feet while playing under and around pressure. Being the widest in the diamond also allows me to check into pockets of space like a central midfield player would do, while also having the licenses to move wider into a more attacking winger role.
I place a high value on and pride myself by my work ethic, whether it be on or off the pitch. In my experience leading by example is the only way to lead, and I try to install my work ethic into my younger sister as well. No matter what challenge you can always count on me to give my everything I have and be relentless in that effort...
