Hailee Steinfeld Responds To 'Love Myself' Being The New Masturbation Anthem

Hailee Steinfeld is turning from an actress into a pop sensation with her debut single "Love Myself," but is the lyrics actually about masturbation?

That appears to be the general consensus, given lyrics that talk about feeling it "deep inside" and "I'm gonna touch the pain away." And everyone is catching on.

"I didn't really care for Hailee Steinfeld's 'Love Myself, but I just found out it's about masturbation and now I like it," tweeted Tina on Twitter.

With many calling it their new "masturbation anthem," the "Pitch Perfect" actress is finally addressing the suggestive lyrics and what they really mean.

"Well, the lyrics are subject to the listener so it's up to their interpretation," said Steinfeld to PopJustice.

"But for me it's an empowerment record and it's ultimately about taking care of yourself and indulging yourself, whether that be emotionally or physically or with material things. It just really shows how much power there is in being able to provide for yourself."

During the interview, Hailee also discussed the creative team behind her upcoming debut album.

"I have to honestly say-this may not be the answer you're looking for-but there are more than a handful of songs that I can't wait for people to hear," said Steinfeld.

"Just because I feel they'll resonate with people for multiple reasons. The producers I'm working with, Mattman & Robin, they're so creative and they're some of the best guys I've ever met. The tracks they've created are so different and so unique. And Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, the writers I've been working with, are unique and different and love to go leftfield with things. There are a lot of songs on this album that will surprise people."
