Early Life
Jada Koren Pinkett, who was born in Baltimore, Maryland, was given her mother’s preferred soap opera star, Jada Rowland, as a middle name. On her mother’s side, she is of Jamaican and Bajan ancestry, and on her father’s, she is of African American ancestry. Adrienne Banfield-Norris, the clinic’s head nurse in Baltimore’s inner city, and Robsol Pinkett Jr., a former construction executive, are her parents.
When Banfield-Norris found out she was pregnant in high school, the pair got hitched but separated soon after. Pinkett was brought up by her mother and her social worker grandmother Marion Martin Banfield, who is of Jamaican descent. She remarked, “My grandma was a doer who wanted to build a better neighborhood and give beauty to the world. Banfield enrolled her granddaughter in piano, tap dance, and ballet after observing her affinity for the performing arts.

In 1990, Pinkett made her acting debut as the lead in a True Colors episode. She appeared as a guest on television programs like Doogie Howser, M.D. (1991) and 21 Jump Street (1991). In 1991, she was cast as Lena James, a college freshman, in Bill Cosby’s NBC sitcom A Different World.[4]
