Joey Koller's Men's Ice Hockey Recruiting Profile
Personal Statement
I grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin watching players like Jake McCabe, Jefferson Dahl, and Michael Kapla at the rink. I began playing hockey at 3 years old and quickly learned that I loved the game. During youth hockey, I played club hockey in the winter and AAA hockey in the spring, summer, and fall. I am committed to playing beyond high school in Juniors and eventually in NCAA Division I or Division III.
On the ice I bring skill, hustle, passion, and a strong work ethic. Watching my highlight films, you'll see that I am a balanced player. I have grit and consistently come out of the corner with the puck. I have finesse and patience waiting for a play to develop. My strong backcheck and forecheck show my consistent hustle and work ethic. You'll see in my statistics that I consistently earn as many points for goals as I do for assists. I play defensively as a center but also contributed 43 points in my sophomore year and had 58 points in the 2018-2019 varsity season. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to see the ice. I understand the game and how plays develop, so I am able to position myself well. I consistently perform in practice and in competition.
I bring more to the team than hockey skills. I am a strong student. I have a 3.73 GPA and earned university credit each year of high school. I am a multi-sport varsity athlete, lettering in both hockey and soccer my freshman and sophomore years. I have strong leadership skills at school. I am on the National Honor Society, a Link Crew Leader for underclassmen, and was selected as on of 36 students in the region for Youth Leadership Eau Claire. Following my sophomore year, my coach appointed me as Captain. I am charged with leading Captain's practice and setting the tone for the team in practices and games. These skills separate me from many player and make a difference on the team.
