John Lennon Autopsy – Testament To His Brutal Murder

On December 8, 1980, John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, were returning home to their apartment in The Dakota, New York City, when Mark David Chapman called out to Lennon. 

Chapman was a Beatles fan and wanted Lennon to autograph his album, Double Fantasy. However, he had been planning to kill Lennon for several months after hearing Lennon’s comment about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus. 

Chapman later admitted that he committed the crime for self-glory. He stood by as Lennon bled out after firing four bullets, hitting him twice in the back and twice in the shoulder.

Lennon was taken to the hospital, but he had lost too much blood and was pronounced dead soon after. 

Just hours before the shooting, Lennon was working on a song with Yoko Ono in a recording studio. 

In interviews leading up to his death, Lennon talked about his career with the Beatles and the recent release of the album he did with Ono.

He stated that he hoped he would die before his wife, as he wouldn’t know how to survive if she died.

The news of Lennon’s death was soon reported by the media, and fans mourned the loss of a legend. 

About 100,000 people held a vigil at the spot where Lennon was shot, and 20,000 people gathered in his hometown of Liverpool. 

Chapman was charged with second-degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life after entering a guilty plea.

He has been denied parole 11 times as of 2020 and will most likely spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security prison.

During Lennon’s autopsy, it was discovered that two bullets had penetrated his shoulder, and two bullets had gone into his back.

Dr. Elliot Gross, the medical examiner who conducted Lennon’s autopsy, said that he died of shock and massive blood loss, and the death was almost immediate. 

One of the bullets that went into Lennon’s back passed through his chest and left lung before exiting his body. Another bullet hit his left lung and was lodged in his neck.

John Lennon’s death was a tragic event that shocked the world. Mark David Chapman’s actions took the life of a talented musician, songwriter, and peace activist.
