Mir Mir Photo Booth – How Does It Work?

A business called Mirmir is attempting to improve the photo booth experience.

As is customary these days, it all began with the Kardashians. At a party in 2013, the reality television first family installed a photo booth from the MirMir firm (say “mirror mirror” three times quickly).

They then shared the image content on their social media pages.

The siblings seemed more airbrushed than usual, with their features perfectly sculpted and grayscale giving them an unexpected air of elegance.

Unsurprisingly, a MirMir booth appeared at almost all Kardashians’ events.

Even more unexpectedly, companies like Amazon, HBO, Microsoft, and Netflix fought tooth and nail to get one for their events. Since then, Google has acquired several machines for its offices.

What is Mir Mir about?

Glenn and co-founder Sean Spencer founded the business in 2013, but it has yet to do any marketing since, for the most part, it hasn’t needed to.

Glenn says over the phone to Racked, “Sean and I both are extremely private individuals, which is interesting because of what we do for a living. We enjoy our work and lead separate lives away from work. We don’t publicly display our names.”

Although the internet will not tell you, Glenn and Spencer both have fine arts and photography backgrounds.

Glenn was seeking a solution to avoid carrying bulky lighting equipment to every assignment while working in the fashion industry in New York City.

He stated, “I wanted something where we could bring the quality of studio lighting to something simplistic and automated, which lent itself to events. We could offer the public an editorial perspective.”

After meeting at an event, the two learned they had a similar clientele despite having independently started their photo booth rental businesses. They merged into MirMir two years later.

Although situated in Los Angeles, patrons can use the photo booth anywhere in the world as long as they have the $2,750 for up to four hours to pay.

This includes New York, San Francisco, Dallas, and Canada.

However, MirMir isn’t just any old photo booth and isn’t even a booth at all. Instead, it’s a tool that combines the knowledge of traditional human intuition with the competence of photo editing software.

In front of the MirMir device, subjects stand on a screen reflecting their likenesses to them, hence the name.

A MirMir staff member, of which there are always at least two at every event, triggers the photo at the precise moment that seems perfect instead of using a countdown.

MirMir’s photo-editing software processes the shot in ten to fifteen seconds, and an actual copy is printed immediately.
