Home to all Melbourne A-League sides, the stadium’s name references its status as the city’s first large purpose-built rectangular stadium, compared to the oval configurations that prioritise cricket and Australian football, to host football and rugby.

The ground has won architectural awards for its unique petal-dome design which covers the seats but allows light to pass through.

Melbourne Rectangular Stadium has recently been upgraded, with new infrastructure, lighting, player, broadcasting and corporate facilities for the World Cup.
