Packers vs. Cardinals live updates: Thursday Night Football score, stats, news and highlights
Rasul Douglas made an interception in the Cardinals' end zone with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Packers a 24-21 upset win in the Week 8 Thursday Night Football game.
A.J. Green was the intended receiver on the throw, but he seemed to get confused on the play, as he didn’t even turn to look for the pass from Kyler Murray. Douglas had recently been on the Cardinals roster, but Green Bay signed him off the Arizona practice squad and he repaid that faith by making a huge play to gain the victory against his former club.
It was a wild ending to a back-and-forth game, as Arizona’s last-minute drive followed a controversial call by the replay official to overturn a potential game clinching touchdown by Aaron Jones. That replay resulted in a successful goal line stand by the Cardinals that preceded the drive that ended with the Douglas pick.
Green Bay’s efficient rushing attack allowed them to overcome the loss of Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, as the Packers racked up 151 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Arizona’s runners gained only 74 yards on 20 carries, but they did rack up three rushing touchdowns.
Arizona’s passing attack was hindered by DeAndre Hopkins’ hamstring injury, as Hopkins made a 55-yard reception in the first quarter and then was limited to only one more catch for 11 yards.
The Packers have now won an NFL-best seven games in a row. The Cardinals' first loss of the year means there are no more undefeated teams in the NFL.
Green Bay (7-1) travels to Kansas City next week. Arizona (7-1) has a divisional road contest at San Francisco in Week 9.
