Pamela Yolanda Askew – Metropolitan Funeral

On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, Pamela Y. Askew peacefully transitioned this earthly life at Chesapeake Regional Hospital. Pam was born on August 7, 1953 in Norfolk, VA to the late Bishop William J. and Mother Mildred L. Faison.

Pam was educated in the Norfolk Public School System and was a 1972 graduate of Maury High School, Norfolk, VA. She was always independent and a hard worker. Pam began pursuing and securing jobs while she was in high school and continued after graduating. Her siblings and parents were in awe when Pam came home with her first car, which she bought on her own without any help from her parents. Pam pursued and secured a job with the federal government. In 2019 she retired from the Department of Defense after 34 years of service.

In 1977, Pam married Louis Askew. From this union three children were born, Shawn, Shannon and Tiffany. Pam loved spending time with her family. She loved spending Friday nights with her girls. She would do anything for her family and friends. Pam was very giving, a good listener and would give sound advice, especially to her children. Her hobby was shopping. Her family called her “Queen Boss” because she was the boss of the family. Her nieces and nephews called her the “fun aunt” because she would take them to the circus and would get discount amusement park tickets for them. She would also let them spend the night at her house and watch movies with them. Pam was well loved, and it was a joy to spend time with her.

When Pam got sick, her children asked: Ma, why you? She responded, “Why not me?” She often said: “It is what it is.” Having been brought up in the church, baptized in the name of Jesus and taught the Word by her parents, Pam knew that God was with her. During her sickness, she often thanked God for His goodness, grace and mercy.

Pam was predeceased by her parents. She leaves to cherish sweet memories, her husband of 45 years, Louis E. Askew; one son, Shawn Askew; two daughters and their spouses, Shannon and Shawn Joyner and Tiffany and James Savage; four grandchildren, Lauren, Shawn and Morgan Joyner and Tyshaun Bellfield; six siblings, Dennis Faison, William Faison, Jr.(Maureen), Evelyn Laverne Spencer, Dale Copeland and Beverly Newsome (Pastor Tony Newsome),and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives and friends.

Lovingly submitted,

The Family
