Pflugerville ISD Middle School Teacher Fired For Inappropriate Discussion With A Student
Recently, the internet was flooded with users searching about Pflugerville ISD middle school teacher.
This keyword was highly searched after a school teacher of Bohls Middle School was caught in a video telling a student in eighth grade that his race is “superior.” As per Pflugerville ISD, he is no longer working for Pflugerville ISD.
In the video, an eighth grader Karmello Luellen was talking with his teacher. When the student was asked how he felt after what his teacher said, he said, “kind of upset, like kind of mad.”
Karmello’s father is a well-recognized music producer at Southside and shared this video in outrage.
In the video, the teacher says, “Deep down in my heart, I’m ethnocentric, which means I think my race is the superior one.” The conversation took a turn in the advisory class after the 13-year-old, Karmello, asked to go to the restroom.
In the video, the teacher says, “Everybody thinks that they’re just not honest about it.” The student replies, “Hey, I’m not racist, though. I like all types of people.”
Then, the teacher says, “I think everybody’s a racist at that level.”
Janae Hardy, Karmello’s mother, was shocked when she saw the video and said that the conversation in the video had made her furious, and she said that he shouldn’t be a teacher.
Hardy was also mad as her son told her that he had told the staff to call his mother after the incident that occurred in the class, but the staff didn’t call her.
She said, “Someone should have contacted me personally. If you’re talking to my child, to have my child write a statement.”
Pflugerville ISD released a statement on Monday saying that the teacher no longer works in the district. They added, “We want to reiterate that this conversation does not align with our core beliefs and is not a reflection of our district or our culture.”
University of Texas professor of education David DeMathews said that teachers should shed their First Amendment rights before entering the classroom.
David said the video proved the teacher was incapable of teaching in the classroom. He added that the schools are looking to invest in well-trained teachers.
Demathews writes in a statement that the teachers are underpaid. He added that 60% of the teachers in the state of Texas have come from different certification backgrounds, so those teachers are “under-prepared.”
Karmello’s mother said she is proud of her son because of how he handled the situation. Karmello’s family believes that this incident could be a lesson to everyone.
She said that don’t be afraid to raise your voice “because if you don’t speak up, nothing’s ever going to be fixed or changed.”
What Is In Pflugerville ISD’s Full Statement?
