Rodney Hudson has excelled at center for the Kansas City Chiefs in recent years. Although the Chiefs tried to retain him, the Raiders reportedly have secured a deal.

Raiders Reportedly Will Sign Hudson

"Rodney Hudson is going to Oakland. $44.5M on a 5 year deal. Someone taking the Raiders' money," reported CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora. On March 7, La Canfora doubted the Chiefs would be able to retain Hudson, but noted they were trying.

Hudson appeared in every possible regular-season game for the Chiefs over the past two years, starting all but one of them. It's been an impressive display of durability after a 2012 campaign that saw Hudson play just three contests before breaking his left leg.

The 25-year-old Hudson would be a boon to Oakland's offensive line. The Raiders were last in the NFL in 2014 running the ball—a product of poor play in the trenches. Hudson is used to getting downhill to block for the likes of Jamaal Charles.

Young Raiders quarterback Derek Carr could also use more time to throw, which Hudson would help with. Most important is that Oakland makes all the roster upgrades it can.

General manager Reggie McKenzie is under pressure to build a winner. Landing Hudson is a step in the right direction, but McKenzie has cash to spend to make bigger splashes. Garafolo's implication that Oakland is missing out on the first wave of free agency isn't good for the Silver and Black's overall outlook.
