Tania Ortiz's Women's Swimming Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

My collegiate goal is to get into a good Engineering/ Architect program.

I started to swim for a swim club when I was 5 years old. In elementary school I was swimming 5 days a week, won a art scholarship with the Olo Gallery, and served as an alter server with my Church. In Junior High School I swam for my swim club 6 days a week, was a member of my Junior High basketball team, Softball team, cross country team, and Track team. I also am an alter server and helped in the kitchen at my Church. In High School I helped take the girls 4 x 400 free relay team get to regionals for the first time in 4 years. I was the only freshman member of that relay team and had the fastest time. I have also been selected to be one of the swim team captains next year because I help the coach to train, and motivate the other swimmers. I am placed in the boys fast lane during practice and have helped the boys get faster times. I continue to be and alter server and help in the kitchen at my Church. Due to my dad having to find a new job in another city, we were not able to afford to pay for me and my brother to continue to swim for a swim club this year. I plan to run track and swim for the High School team in order to continue my conditioning for the rest of the school year. This summer my dad is to come back and we plan to re-join my swim club.

I am the middle child of 3 in my family. I have an older brother who is 16 and a younger sister who is 9. I started to cook when I was 11 years old after watching my dad look. Now I can make cakes, and all kinds of dishes. I get up early every morning and cook breakfast for my brother and sister. I make waffles or pancakes, fruit salad, and coffee for my mom. I help her because my dad is currently working out of town. I also started a small business selling snacks at school. I started this in Junior High School when I saw there was a need for snacks for kids that were working out at the pool. Then I started selling them to kids and teachers. I buy my own cloths and sporting gear with the money. Recently I helped my brother buy an X box one that we share.

I have learned how important it is to get good grades. I know that there are lots of good and bad choices that I can make. I hope to make the right choices to get good grades in school. I know how important grades are to get the education I need in order to reach my career goals. I also know that swimming can help me get there so I plan to do all I can to become a swimmer that can help take a team to a higher level.
