Voting Guide 2024: Navigating General Elections
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The simultaneous general elections are just a few days away. Voters will elect the President and Vice President, the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) which consists of the House of Representatives (DPR), the Senate (DPD), as well as provincial and city/regency legislatures across the country.
Here is what you need to know about the election day:
When will the 2024 general election be held?
Election day for domestic voters will be on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Polling stations (TPS) will be open starting from 7am to 1pm local time.
People who are registered on the final voter list (DPT) may cast their ballot at their assigned TPS. This can be checked at cekdptonline.kpu.go.id.
What to bring to the polling place?
The General Elections Commission (KPU) explained on its Instagram account, @kpu_ri, that there are various documents that voters are required to present at the polling place. The details are as follows:
1. Final voter list (DPT)
The DPT is compiled based on voter data in the previous election and the Home Affairs Ministry’s data. Voters are required to bring their electronic ID cards (e-KTP) or a certificate from the Regional Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil) Office and a model C form from the KPU, which will be distributed three days prior to the voting day.
2. Additional voter list (DPTb)
The DPTb contains voters who are registered in the DPT but have requested to change their voting place at least seven days before the election or Wednesday, Feb. 7. They are suggested to bring e-KTP or a certificate from the local Dukcapil Office and a model A form of the voting transfer letter.
3. Special voter list (DPK)
The DPK contains voters who have a resident identity, but are not yet registered in the DPT or DPTb. Those falling into this category can vote one hour before the polling stations close, by bringing their e-KTP or a certificate from the local Dukcapil Office.
How to vote
Referring to Article 353 (1) of Law No. 7 of 2017 on general elections, voting will be done by making a single hole in the selection. Each polling booth will be equipped with a nail.
Here is the procedure:
1. Visit the TPS on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, between 7am and 1pm local time.
2. Complete the attendance list as instructed by the local election officials.
3. Submit e-KTP and any other required documents to the officials.
4. Wait for your turn. Once inside the polling booth, you will get five ballot papers and cast your vote.
5. Refold the ballot papers according to the instructions.
6. Put all ballot papers into the box provided.
7. Then, dip the tip of your finger in ink as proof that you have exercised your right to vote in the 2024 general elections.
